HISTORY

The first seminar in this series was held in Edmonton, Canada, in 1999, and was the result of discussions between Richard Jewell (Australian Centre for Geomechanics), Ted Lord (Syncrude) and Andy Fourie (the at the University of Witwatersrand). Following on from the interest generated from this first get together, a second seminar was held in Perth early in 2000. Since then momentum has steadily increased, with the 10th seminar in 2007 in Fremantle, Australia, attracting more than 260 delegates.

The seminar venue rotates principally between Australia, South America, and South Africa. The reason for this is that the majority of these types of projects are found in these regions. Every few years the seminar is held in the Northern Hemisphere to accommodate developments of the technology in Europe and North America.

The seminar is proving to be a fantastic get together and forum for people in the industry who have an interest in this technology and is recognised as the premier forum for this technology.
